What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, smartphone or other device when you access websites.  Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other websites. Many websites do this whenever a user visits their website in order to track online traffic flows.

Two cookies are used by the CAW VLE.

The essential one is the session cookie, usually called MoodleSession. You must allow this cookie into your browser to provide continuity and maintain your login from page to page. When you log out or close the browser this cookie is destroyed.

The other cookie is purely for convenience, usually called something line MOODLEID. It just remembers your user ID within the browser. This means when you return to this site the user ID field on the login page will already bee filled out for you. It is safe to refuse this cookie - you will just have to retype your username every time you log in.

This site also uses Google Analytics, which uses cookies to help us analyse how our visitors use the site. Find out more about how these cookies are used on the Google privacy site
